Why Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa?

Why Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa?

The Horn of Africa is one of the most strategic and spiritually significant regions in the world for Christian mission.

  • A Strategic Crossroads

Ethiopia sits at the intersection of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, making it a natural gateway for cultural, religious, and economic exchange. What happens in this region often influences neighboring nations and beyond.

  • A Diverse and Growing Population

With more than 120 million people, Ethiopia is one of Africa’s most populous nations. The country is home to many ethnic groups, languages, and cultural traditions, creating both great opportunities and significant mission challenges.

Across the Horn of Africa, millions of people still have limited access to the Gospel or live in areas where churches are few.

  • Unreached and Underserved Communities

Many communities across Ethiopia and the surrounding region remain unreached or minimally reached with the Gospel. Indigenous missionaries and church leaders often face significant barriers, including limited resources, training, and support.

  • The Power of Indigenous Mission

Local believers are uniquely positioned to reach their own communities with cultural understanding, language, and long-term presence. Strengthening indigenous missionaries is one of the most effective and sustainable ways to advance the Gospel.

  • A Moment of Opportunity

Rapid urbanization, population growth, migration, and social change are opening new doors for Gospel witness and community transformation.

Elim Valley Holistic Mission (EVHM) seeks to respond to this opportunity by equipping indigenous leaders, planting churches, and serving communities holistically across Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

EVHM was established in 2025 out of a shared vision to see the Gospel transform both lives and communities. While the ministry is new, its foundation is built on decades of faithful service

  • One of our founders, Pastor Lire, served for over 25 years with RVM, focusing on sending missionaries and supporting indigenous leaders.
  • Another founder, Dr. Mulugetta, invested more than 20 years with ELIM Mission, specializing in missionary training, equipping, and pastoral care.

Collectively, these experiences have significantly shaped EVHM’s strategic commitment to discipleship, church multiplication, and holistic mission. EVHM does not represent a continuation of any previous organization; rather, it is a distinct initiative raised up by God for this season, purposefully integrating spiritual ministry with sustainable community transformation to achieve lasting impact.
